Through Darkness into the Light
 

The 24th El Haddawi Winter School takes place from March 2nd, 6 p.m. to March 7th 2025, 1 p.m. at the island convent "Abtei Frauenwoerth" on the Fraueninsel in Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria.

Human beeings have been searching for the real reason for our existence since immemorial time. Are we a contingent product of evolution? Or were we created to pass tests or complete a task? Old myths always tell of humanity's journey through the darkness into the light. What did our ancestors give us to complete this journey? Actually, we make the archetypal journey every day€“ from darkness to light. From night to day, from sleep and dream to wakefulness, from contemplation to encounter. And again and again we plunge into the darkness.

We will explore these questions in our winter school. Methods and principles of artistic dance and martial arts show the plenty of human movement possibilities. Sufi dances and recitations of the names of the divine provide access to the tension between dark and light. Meditation helps to create the space of silence that has room for all of our being - no matter how different we may be.

In our Winter School we research on these topics. Methods and principles of creative dance and martial arts show the variety and plentitude of human possibilites to move. Sufi Dances and Recitations of the names of the Divine provide a different way to access ambiguity, which was seen as a quality in Islamic cultures until 200 years ago. Meditation helps to create a space of silence, which has room for our being - as different as we might be.
